Artist. Creative. On a path of exploration.

Aislynn Underwood

Coming into focus.

Aislynn Underwood (pronouns she/her/they) She identifies as non-binary and queer. She lives in the Seattle area with her beloved partner and fellow collaborator in life, music and art, John-Luke and their sweet puppies Finn and Fiona.

Aislynn was born and grew up in the Midwest, but celebrates the day she and her family moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1994. She studied ballet, modern dance, and music, with her passion for the arts leading her to attend Stephens College for dance performance. Life evolved and Aislynn now holds a B.S. in psychology with graduate studies in mental health counseling. A profound personal experience created a drive to explore human consciousness, the mind/body connection, and our connection to the collective. This led to her studies in energy healing, transpersonal states of consciousness through meditation, breath work, and somatic therapy practices; the focus being for growth and the healing of trauma.

While in the social work field Aislynn used creative imagery with her clients and while experiencing more and more the powerful healing benefits of self exploration through creative expression, she felt led to attend art school in Seattle. She tiptoed into a massive shift in focus that opened aspects of herself that were yet to be discovered.

Aislynn’s sculpture work is influenced by her many years as a dancer; studying form, movement and line. Her initial explorations were exclusively watercolor botanical studies. Aislynn’s love of the magnificent colors, form and geometry present in plant life remains with her today. She evolved into abstraction, color studies and different material explorations. Once sculpting, it felt like a flood gate had opened as she discovered her love of capturing the human spirit and form. Aislynn has in the last few years found a growing passion for 2D portraiture work and is looking forward to a continued focus.

Still frequently moving back and forth between abstraction and realism, using many mediums as she feels drawn, Aislynn is always open to trying new materials and methods. Mixing them, testing limits and discovering new outcomes excites her. She would love to explore working in glass, metal and wood in the future.

Being open, listening to her inner voice and remaining curious are the tenets she adheres to. This intuitive process is her journey.

Please feel free to visit the galleries and check out Aislynns’ many explorations for yourself.

Welcome! So glad you’re here.

Aislynn has several pieces in the permanent collection of the Unity Center for Behavior Health, Portland Oregon and in private collections.

“Anahata: the gift” was happily ensconced at the CoCA (Center on Contemporary Art) Seattle, WA. Spring show March 5th-April 25th, 2020.

Before the mold was completed, this piece was damaged with a sliver of winter sun making its way in through a small garage window. This clay softens and melts with excessive warmth.

Exhibit at Gage Academy in April 2019. My master copy work on the features of “David” by Michelangelo and my piece “Light and Dark of Being”
